100 Jobs Coming to Stark County – An insurance company that specializes in life and supplemental health insurance products will be opening a regional office. Liberty National Life Insurance Co. based in Birmingham, Alabama, expects to hire about 100 associates. Eighty-five will be “field service consultants” and 10 to 15 will be unit manager openings. All of the associates hired will be employees with benefits, as opposed to being independent contractors. The commission based jobs would pay up to $80,000 a year. Consultants design portfolios for people or companies, while unit managers oversee their field training. The company recently opened two offices in Columbus. Republic Announces New Cold-Finished Division Headquarters in Massillon – Republic Engineered Products, Inc., North America’s largest producer of special bar quality steel, announced the relocation of its Cold-Finished Bar Products headquarters to its manufacturing facility in Massillon, Ohio. The Massillon location is the largest of three Republic sites that manufacture cold-finished bar. The other facilities are located in Gary, Indiana, and Hamilton, Ontario. The Massillon facility has about 175 employees currently and will see the addition of approximately ten headquarters’ staff. The relocation of the Cold Finished Division headquarters takes Republic one step closer to its goal of being the global leader in the cold-finished bar products industry. Akron Canton Airport (CAK) Sets All-Time Passenger Record – The Akron Canton Airport posted its best year ever in 2008 for passenger traffic. A total of 1,469,196 customers traveled to and from CAK in 2008 beating the old record set in 2006 by more than 30,000. By offering the lowest average fares in Ohio, popular nonstop destinations, and a relaxing atmosphere, Akron Canton has grown its business in the midst of challenging times. Nearly every carrier saw an increase for the year including AirTran Airways (6%) with a total of 670,000 passengers; U.S. Airways (20%) with a total of 183,300; Frontier Airlines (14%) with a total of 167,100; Northwest Airlink (14%) at 92,000; and United Express (4%) at 74,525. Also, the airport carried more passengers in December 2008 than ever before. More than 120,000 total passengers passed through CAK – a 12.5% increase compared to December 2007.
